John C. Kelterer is a Partner in McWalters & Kelterer, offering real estate consulting, capital formation, asset repositioning, and investment services to public and private real estate organizations and individuals, emphasizing in-fill and redevelopment opportunities. James G. McWalters and he formed the company in 2003. Kelterer draws upon more than thirty years of direct real estate experience in banking, investment banking, direct real estate development, and real estate consulting.

Kelterer’s professional memberships and affiliations include the Urban Land Institute and prior service as a Board Member of National Association of Industrial and Office Parks. He has served on an advisory board to the Dean of the Business School at the University of California, Irvine and teaches real estate development in the Graduate School of Management at UCI. He previously taught finance in the MBA program at Santa Clara University.

1999–2004

Mandalay Bay Partners, L.L.C. Principal. Formed to develop 136 acres of waterfront property at the Channel Islands Harbor in Ventura County, CA. Property sold at entitlement.

1995–2003

At the request of the capital partners, assumed responsibility and finished the buildout of the troubled 5000 acre Rancho Santa Margarita master planned community. As President of RSM Management Company and subsequently as Managing Partner of Benchmark Real Estate Group, he oversaw the entire process, which included a total reorganization of the development team, repositioning of the asset base, orderly sale of all assets, and the repayment of significant debt. This led to the return to the partners of in excess of $100 million since 1996, after repayment of all debt, equity, and preferences.

1995–2003

Served as Advisor and Consultant on four planned communities in Northern and Southern California: Chapman Heights, Serrano at El Dorado, The Parkway in Folsom, and Rio Vista in Cathedral City.

1989–1995

Served as an Advisor and Consultant to several financial institutions with respect to troubled real estate. Also served in the capacity of a Court Appointed Receiver for real estate assets.

1981–1989

Merrill Lynch Private Capital, a merchant and investment banking arm of Merrill Lynch Capital Resources. Executive Director.

1965–1981

Wells Fargo Bank. Established the Income Property operation of  Wells Fargo Mortgage Company in Southern California in 1974. Founded the Southern California Division of the Real Estate Industries Group, growing it to generate financings in excess of $2 Billion per year. Senior Vice President and Deputy Group head. Managed the entire statewide group with annual financings exceeding $4 Billion.
